Greg was the ER Cross Award recipient in 2023. He represented the Historical Diving Society (HDS) in the Northeast region for over two decades, setting up and working the HDS booth with Bob Rusnak and others at Boston Sea Rovers and Beneath the Sea shows.

He started diving in Manitoba, Canada being certified through NAUI in 1969 and eventually became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor in 1976.

He graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology, School of Marine & Environmental Science in Jensen Beach Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanographic Technology. While pursuing his degree he took as electives all the Underwater Technology pilot courses that were available at the time which included Diving Physiology, Recompression Chamber Operations & Underwater Demolitions (probably the one and only class since we almost blew up the Joie de Vivre).

Although he was unable to find a job in his preferred field – Diving Systems. His first job out of college that launched his career in Ocean Engineering and Underwater Acoustics with various defense contractors starting with Sparton Electronics Electro-Acoustics Systems Lab Raytheon Submarine Signal Division, Hazeltine which became BAE Systems then Ultra Electronics Ocean Systems, and Charles Stark Draper Labs.

Products managed, designed and built included sonobuoys, sonar transducers, submarine launched sonar & torpedo countermeasures, submarine rescue beacons (SEPIRB), fish diversion systems, Situational Awareness & Reconnaissance (SAR) buoy, various Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUV), Swimmer Delivery Vehicles (SDV), etc. I Retired in 2022.

In 2011 received a US Patent for “Apparatus Having A Buoyant Structure That Resists Rotation” related to a submarine launched 2-way Situational Awareness Buoy (SAR).

I also did a 5-year stint in the commercial world. I was the Mechanical Engineering Manager for LTX a company that designed a built state-of-the-art semiconductor mixed signal test equipment.

In 2018 became Vice President for the New England Aquarium Dive Club and in 2022 became the Florida Tech Alumni New England Chapter – Vice President.
